22nd April 2018 (Sun) - Worcester District St George's Day Parade

Worcester District Scout annual St George's Day Parade and Service in Worcester Cathedral. The Group will join all the other Groups from Worcester to parade from Angel Place to Worcester Cathedral where we will take part in the St George's Day service and then parade back to Angel Place.

All Group members are expected to attend this important Scouting event.

This year the St. George's Day Service will take place in Worcester Cathedral on Sunday 22nd April 2018 commencing at 2.15 p.m.

Every Member of the Movement is expected to attend and to wear full and correct uniform.  NO HEADGEAR WILL BE WORN BY ANY MEMBER, EXCEPT SEA SCOUTS.  This is the one occasion when every effort should be made to encourage the highest possible attendance and turn-out.   No track suit trousers, jeans, trainers or white socks please.

Scout Groups should assemble in ANGEL PLACE at 1.15 p.m. promptly.  The precise location will depend upon the situation with the Sunday market so everyone should please follow instructions when they arrive.  ADC Activities will be responsible for organising the parade to and from the Cathedral. The route will be from Angel Place, via Broad Street and High Street, to College Yard and the North Door of the Cathedral.

Our route should be traffic free and under Police control, but please remember that adequate adult supervision will be required.

Explorer Scouts and Members of the Scout Network should parade with their Unit.

The parade will be accompanied by the band of the 5th Worcester.

After the Service the parade will reform on College Green and march via the High Street to the Guildhall, where the salute will be taken. ONLY LEADERS WILL SALUTE. The parade will then proceed via Broad Street to Angel Place where it will be dismissed at approximately 3.45 p.m.

One flag from each Section will be allowed and only these Section flags and the District Queen's Colours and St George’s Cross will be paraded.  All Colour Bearers (not escorts) will report to the Cathedral on Friday 20th April 2018 at 7.00 p.m. prompt for the rehearsal.

The Host Group this year will be the 8th Worcester. 8th and 9th Worcester will provide the flag bearers and escorts for the Queen's Colours and St George’s Cross.

There should be room for everybody in the Cathedral.  However, priority will continue to be given to uniformed members.

The Explorer Unit will co-ordinate the collection.

It is essential that sufficient seats are available for our uniformed members and therefore, as usual, the centre aisles and most of the side aisles will be reserved for them.  Parents are requested NOT to enter the Cathedral until AFTER the parade has entered.

Please ask parents and friends to park in Newport Street Car Park and not to obstruct Angel Place. A drum roll will announce that the Parade is about to begin - please ask for silence from all spectators after this in order that instructions can be heard by the participants.

You will be aware that during the Service a collection is taken. This is meant to cover costs for the Service. In recent years there has never been a surplus hence we never cover our costs. If there was any surplus this would go towards any other Charity nominated by the host Group. Leaders please can you please explain to parents and our young people that a collection does take place and its purpose.
