11th-13th July (Fri-Sun) - Cub Camp at Rhydd Covert

During the weekend of 11th-13th July 2014 seventeen Cubs enjoyed a two-night camp at Rhydd Covert Scout Campsite near Bewdley.

We arrived at Rhydd at 6:30pm and spent the first hour setting up camp. After all the tents were up and gear stowed we all walked down to the chip shop in Catchems End to buy a chip supper. We then walked back to camp in time for drinks and bed. After a bit of chattering all was quite at 11:30pm.

Saturday started at 7am with breakfast, followed by tent and kit inspection. We then split into two half and half did archery and half grass sledging. After and hour and a half the two groups swapped over and did the other activity.

After lunch we all the Cubs went off with an orienteering map of the Rhydd Covert campsite and tried to find the 14 orienteering points dotted around. The best that was found was 11 so there’s room for a little bit of improvement next time. After that we all went off for a hike around the Rifle Range nature reserve and climbed up the Devils Spittlefull and had a look at the cave. There was just time to join the queue at the camp shop to buy souvenirs (and sweets!)

The evening meal was chilli con carne, rice and pitta bread. This was followed by fruit cocktail, apple pies and cream.

In the evening we had a campfire, cooked marshmallows, and made smores. Bed came earlier Saturday night and all was quiet by 11pm after the full day.

Up again at 7:30am on Sunday, for breakfast followed a session on the climbing tower.

Camp was packed away in time for flag down at 12:30 and pickup by parents at 1:00pm.

A very successful camp with all Cubs getting Nights Away, Hikes Away and some also completing Camper and getting parts of their Outdoor Challenge ticked off.
